11:44 loonyhiker-1 : i have grown so much thru my connections from twitter :)
11:44 wcgaskins-1 : I feel alone in my district and building in this. People think i am crazy
11:45 loonyhiker-1 : do they get that glazed look while u talk excitedly about all of this? lol
11:45 khokanson-1 : @wcgaskins there are very few places where folks have a learning community ON SITE....that is why many of us turn to our ONLINE learning community...
11:45 wcgaskins-1 : yes and yes.
11:45 khokanson-1 : they give us the tools to help build those learning communities at home
11:46 loonyhiker-1 : darn, i'm following 135 in my google reader
11:46 wcgaskins-1 : My learning community helps me keep doing what I do.
11:46 loonyhiker-1 : it makes me excited to know there are others out there that feel like me
11:46 derrallg-1 : I don't think people think I'm crazy but they don't understand its not just one more thing
11:47 SharonP : @khokanson - And I work for an organization that does most of work at a distance from each other and seems to have no apparent interest in building our org into a learning community - I have tried to bring it up at meetings... little interest - it is very frustrating -
11:47 wcgaskins-1 : I have four people in my district interested in learning. We are starting a study group and they what me to introduce them to this world
11:47 SharonP : so yes, I turn to another online community to be my learning community
11:47 derrallg-1 : its the transformative process that teachers aren't getting
11:48 wcgaskins-1 : What is the best way to bring a novice into this way of learning
11:48 khokanson-1 : 4 is a great start....
11:48 SharonP : encouragement, intro them to something like twitter, give them the 15 min per day challenge of self-directed PD
11:48 khokanson-1 : the best way to start is to look at what they like about what they are currently doing....
11:49 khokanson-1 : then talk about what is frustrating
11:49 khokanson-1 : and find the RIGHT TOOL to change their teaching & learning
11:49 derrallg-1 : @Kristen yes, that'
12:27 lnitsche : Yes- everything based on the purpose
12:27 SharonP : technology does not replace excellent teachers
12:27 lsshanks : We are not saying tech is panacea, right, but that it can be another embedded, effective tool.
12:28 lnitsche : Excellent teachers know how and when to choose the right technology to accomplish their purpose
12:28 SharonP : but excellent teachers are also learners.... who are maximising every tool available for their students
12:28 SharonP : we think alike, Linda! :-)
12:28 lnitsche : Yup!
12:28 derrallg-1 : yes, but once your back in a comfort zone for teachers then they see these approaches as apple to apple
12:28 lsshanks : Derrallg, please explain apple to apple?
12:28 lnitsche : @derrallg-1 Can you explain what yo mean?
12:29 SharonP : I am afraid have to leave.... taking daughter out to lunch before she returns to uni tomorrow!
12:29 derrallg-1 : they would see traditional approaches and global tech as equal
12:29 SharonP : great conversations! cheers, all!
