A Principal's Perspective: Leading Technology Integration with Regular People

Now that we have IWB's, cell phones, iPods, netbooks, clickers, document cameras, etc.....what are we looking for? Teachers think they know. IT's think they know. So what is it? Join a practicing principal in her journey about how to evaluate and/or observe technology integration. This is your chance to tell a principal what you think technology integration could look like. It's not just about the tools and I am not looking for IWB lessons I am looking for the "meat and potatoes" of student learning. And this is about REGULAR PEOPLE, not the techno-geek teachers that have it all figured out. How do those of us, who think we have it figured out help bring the others along rapidly.

About the Presenter:

Melinda Miller is the elementary principal at Willard East Elementary in Willard,MO. Willard is in the southern portion of the state not far from the Arkansas border. Willard East is a K-4 building with approximately 320 students. This is her 16th year in education. She spent 10 years teaching 5th grade students and the past 6 years as an administrator. Melinda is also the administrator of Tiger Cubs Preschool and Willard Parents as Teachers. Recently she has been accepted to Google Teacher Academy for Administrators in San Antonio, TX. This will be the 3rd year Melinda has organized the "Internet Cafe" for the Missouri Association of Elementary School Principals.

Question #1 - Classroom Appearance - What "should" the learning space look like?

When your principal walks into your classroom what should he or she see?
David Jakes has an awesome presentation on "Learning Spaces." This would look different at all levels. (Elementary, MS, HS, and with your faculty)

I would focus some on what makes digital tools different than traditional tools. Something to do with the ease in which ideas/content can be shared outside of the classroom. Most digital tools don't do anything differently than what we can already do, they just expand the audience.
